This qualification reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. Educators at this level are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum that meets the requirements of an approved learning framework and for maintaining compliance in other areas of service operations. They use specialised knowledge and analyse and apply theoretical concepts to diverse work situations. They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other educators.

  • Master of Teaching (Birth to 12 years old)

Job Roles

Job roles and titles may vary across early childhood settings. Upon successful completion of CHC50121 a person could seek employment opportunities in roles such as:

  • Early Childhood Educator
  • Family day care educator
  • Preschool assistant
  • Nanny or in-home care educator
  • Room leaders
  • Nominated or authorised supervisor for a centre under 29 children

Entry Requirements

• be 18 years or older; and

• have completed Year 12 or its equivalent with suitable English language skills.

• International Students are also required to have an English ability at the IELTS 5.5 or equivalent.

• Hold a CHC30121 or CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.

• A Working With Children Check is required for work placement and for gaining employment

Working with Children Check

Due to the mandatory work placement requirement, students wish to study CHC50121 will be required to undergo and satisfy Working with Children Checks. This should be done during orientation so that approval is provided prior to the first industry placement

Delivery Modes

Learners are provided with learning resources, training manuals, assessment requirements and access to other research facilities. The program will include classroom training, online study and mandatory 280 hours of mandatory work placement. 

Students are required to attend 14 hours/week of structured face-to-face formal training for 54 weeks to be held in a classroom at Times Academy premises.

This qualification is made up of 15 units (12 core units and 3 electives) Units of competency are clustered and stand alone; however, they have been sequenced in line with industry consultation and clustered together into units with similar skills and knowledge.
